Kinkakuji (Golden Pavilion)

Photo
Kinkakuji, also known as the Golden Pavilion, is one of Kyoto’s most iconic landmarks. Originally built in 1397 as a retirement villa for the shogun Ashikaga Yoshimitsu, it was later converted into a Zen Buddhist temple. The temple’s top two floors are completely covered in gold leaf, reflecting beautifully on the surrounding pond. Visitors can stroll along the scenic gardens, admire the perfectly landscaped grounds, and enjoy the peaceful ambiance that epitomizes traditional Japanese aesthetics.
