Before You Ask – It’s Probably Here (FAQ)

What is the best way to travel to Bali?

Reaching Bali by sea is quite popular as there are several cruise liners that stopover at Bali, but you will first need to reach Singapore or Sumatra to board. However, the best way to travel to Bali is by air as the Denpasar International Airport receives international as well as domestic flights regularly.

When is the best time to visit Bali?

The best time to visit Bali is between April and October, during the dry season. During these months, you can enjoy the summer sunshine on Bali’s beaches and at the island’s main attractions, avoiding the rainy season. July and August are the most popular months to visit Bali as they fall within the peak of the high season. During this time, the skies are clear and the days warm, with low humidity, but travelers must contend with an influx of tourists. Bali is quieter during the tail-end of April through October, and you can avoid the crowds between October and December. During these times, you can expect frequent rainfall. However, this is not a deal-breaker as you can comfortably explore Balinese temples, partake in yoga classes, and enjoy indoor experiences when it rains.

What's the weather like in Bali?

Bali is generally hot, sunny and humid and typically the rainy season is between November - Feb/March. However rain usually pours heavily for a short duration in the afternoon or during the night, leaving the rest of the day warm and sunny (around 90 degrees) and cools off at night.

Do I need a VISA to enter Bali?

Indonesia has a free 30-Day visa-on-arrival system (tourist visa). If you would like to stay more than 30 days, then you will need to pay $35 at the airport when you arrive at the airport for the option to extend with an Indonesian agent for up to 60-days.

Important note:

Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months or else Indonesia will NOT allow you into the country and your airline will NOT let you on the plane. Make sure your passport is renewed before you travel to Indonesia.

Can I drink the water?

No! Always drink bottled or filtered water. 99% of restaurants in Bali use bottled water for all cooking purposes and it is advisable to drink and brush teeth with bottled water to avoid 'Bali Belly' - a mild dysentery which can occur but passes in a few days.

What clothing can I wear in Bali?

Where you will stay will 99% of the time be air conditioned or with a fan, but outside it is hot and humid. Flip flops or comfortable walking sandals are a must with light clothing like t-shirts and shorts to keep you cool are recommended and a light pullover in the evenings if you are riding a motorbike. When entering temples you must be respectful and have your shoulders covered and wear a sarong (for men and women) - usually sarongs are provided for you when you visit a temple. You may want to always keep a waterproof jacket nearby if you are in Ubud between November - February as quick and heavy showers can occur and you may get caught!

What currency does Bali use?

The official currency of Bali is the Indonesian rupiah (Rp). You should ensure you exchange your local currency for Indonesian rupiah, most establishments do not accept US dollars, electronic payment services are not always accepted or reliable, and ATMs are few and far between in rural areas and small towns.
